Crux Leadership Development

Crux Leadership Development was founded in 2022 by Amanda Wilson, the headteacher of a 1-form entry primary school in Greenwich, South London. Amanda has over 25 years’ experience in the education sector and has a passion for enabling individuals to own who they are and enjoy the journey that this takes them on.

Crux Leadership Development brings together under one umbrella the three things Amanda is most passionate about: coaching, workshop facilitation and writing.

Qualifications and Experience

In July 2025 Amanda was conferred an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Cumbria for her outstanding contribution to teacher education. In October 2025 she embarked on her PhD studies with the University of Cumbria; her research will focus on Headteacher emotions during critical incidents involving students. Amanda has an MA in Coaching and Mentoring Practice from Oxford Brookes University. Her dissertation focused on the experience of coaching for Black headteachers. Amanda is a Senior Practitioner with the European Coaching and Mentoring Council (EMCC) and utilises the theoretical and practical elements during her 1:1 coaching sessions and as a basis for the workshops she delivers on the topic of Challenging Conversations, Belonging and Culture and Imposter Syndrome. She is a UKCP registered trainee psychotherapist (Transactional Analysis) and a member of the UK Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA) and the International Transactional Analysis Association.

Amanda holds a number of non-executive roles within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. This includes being a member of Schools Forum, The Greenwich Learning Partnership and Educate Against Racism, a partnership of school leaders from across the Royal Borough of Greenwich whose aims is to make a difference in their schools by addressing racial biases and imbalances.

Speaking and Publishing.

Amanda has delivered keynote speeches and presentations on the topics of leadership development in education, diversity in school leadership and her foster care experience. She is the founder of 9:10 Publishing, an independent imprint which publishes books aimed at aimed at Black British young people written from a Black British perspective. In 2023 she published Letters to a Young Generation: Aspiring School Leaders, a compilation of 18 letters from Black headteachers aimed at the next generation of Black school leaders.

Workshops and Publictions.

Amanda has delivered workshops which draw on Transactional Analysis as a foundation for helping individuals to improve their communication skills and enhance interpersonal relationships.

She has delivered workshops as part of Teach First’s NPQ annual conference and at the Southwark Diocese Association Headteachers Conference. Her sessions consistently receive positive feedback.

In 2025 Amanda delivered a workshop on psychological safety and belonging at the Southwark Diocese Headteachers Conference in Canterbury.

She is the founder of the First 100 Days Headteachers Conference, an annual event aimed at new and aspiring headteachers.

In addition to publishing four books under her own imprint 9:10 Publishing, Amanda has contributed chapters to two books: Black in School: The Black Teachers Guide for Surviving the Classroom (published by Sage, 2024) and Exploring Creative Learning: Two Primary Schools and Their Partnerships (published by Trentham Books, 2007)

Amanda has also written articles for The Headteacher magazine and Tes and is a judge for their annual awards
